Kisoro project

BACKGROUND
The Kisoro Project supports the BaTwa people who live in the Kisoro region of Uganda. In the early 1990’s the BaTwa were dispossessed from the forest where they had lived for thousands of years due to environmental conservation and ecological measures of the Ugandan government and international agencies. The drastic change to their lifestyle, along with their small number and despised status, has brought the Ugandan Batwa close to being wiped out.
KEY PROJECTS
The Kisoro Project provides the following assistance and intervention to the BaTwa people:
Education at a local Anglican School for 25 Primary school aged children who have never previously been educated and who have illiterate parents.
Access to medical services at the Potters Village, and regular clinics operating at the BaTwa Village. Health services are not easily available to the BaTwa at the government hospital as they are actively discriminated against. This health/medical initiative has dramatically reduced the death rate of mothers and their children at birth.
Emergency food relief and provision of seeds for agriculture to grow food.
It should be noted that this community is so marginalised that the base we are working at is extremely desperate and barely survivable.
